Warrington Hosts Acquired Structure Burn

March 28, 2026

On Saturday March 28th Career Staff from WTDES and Volunteers from WTFC came together for a joint live burn class in an acquired structure. Before more detail on the training we need to recognize the people who made it possible, without them none of this would have been possible.
First and most important thank you is to James D Morrissey Inc. and Jim Furey, for your generous donation of the structure and your continued support to public safety in Warrington. The value of practice like this is unmatched to using a standard burn tower.
Additional thank you's go to Lowe's, The Home Depot, David H. Lightkep, Inc. for your donation of pallets, Winding Brook Farm for your donation of straw. Also thank you to Chal-Brit Regional EMS for providing EMS coverage as a standby and rehab station. Thank you to Doylestown Fire Company No. 1 for sending UTV79 to manage any spot fires. Thank you to Chalfont Fire Company & Hartsville Fire Company for covering the Warrington for the duration of the training. Thank you to Glenside Fire Company for bringing your air cascade. Last but certainly not least we want to thank our community. The support from the neighbors to allow us to have this opportunity was felt. We know some came out to watch throughout the day, we appreciate you supporting the department to accomplish this training, and hopefully you enjoyed seeing a part of what we are here for.
The Training: Instructors from Pennsylvania State Fire Academy put on a structural burn class which involved a lecture, hands on practical skills, and the live burn itself. The training was much more than just lighting a fire and putting it out. Students got to observe fire dynamics in real time, read and understand the movement of smoke, temperatures, door control, and water application. The experience that the instructors were able to bring to a realistic classroom was second to none and lead to a great day of training. At the end of training evolutions the remaining portions of the house are allowed to finish burning to allow for a safer end product. Again thank you to all of those who helped make this training opportunity possible.
